Uvita is the next Santa Teresa, but in a good way. Despite the zero-crowded surfable beaches, there’s a vibe. You’ll feel it when you’re here, everyone does, but you’ll not be able to explain it. Wherever you surf, you’ll be doing it in warm waters all year (no wetsuit) with nothing lurking in the water (no sharks here) with very, very few people surfing (I surf here and can often be the only one). There are lifeguards at Playa Ballena, Hermosa, and Dominical. Playa Ballena (comprises all of Playa Uvita, Playa Colonia, and Playa Chaman) is part of the Marino Ballena National Park, and is a pristine beach walking distance from Uvita centre.
